long-term news

I want a news source that I can check once per month about what is actually worth knowing about: it'd mention Chrome but not the EULA screwup, or that there's an iPhone app store but skip all the banned apps hubbub. 95% of news is forgotten within a day or so, but all the producers are tuned to short attention spans and shorter memories. The trick would be to be ok with being a month late, because you often need time's perspective to decide on the worth of something. Anyone have any ideas?
