dear ubuntu: wtf?

$ apt-cache show ubufox | egrep '^(Desc| )'
Description: Ubuntu Firefox specific configuration defaults and apt support
Extension package for Firefox provides ubuntu specific configuration defaults
as well as apt support for firefox plugins/extensions.
.
You can uninstall this package if you prefer to use a pristine firefox
install.
$ dpkg -L ubufox | grep searchplug
/usr/share/ubufox/searchplugins
/usr/share/ubufox/searchplugins/ask.xml

What does an Ask-specific search plugin have to do with Ubuntu-specific configuration?

(Before someone asks: I don't care about this from a Google-vs-the-world perspective -- please, go use Ask if you like it.)
