upgrading to ubuntu edgy

Was released a month ago, so maybe it works.

# broken dep in dapper sudo apt-get install python-vte # run the update-manager with the "dist upgrade available" button sudo update-manager -c -d

mart	One of my co-workers was asking me the other day how to upgrade his Ubuntu install, so I went all Debian and had him edit `/etc/apt/sources.list`. While it worked, I'm sure this solution would have made him less uneasy. `;)`

I had lots of trouble with my upgrade, but that was during development, so I'd never thought it'd not.

However, when I upgraded from Dapper at a friend's house a week or so after release, using the official update-manager method, it didn't work. So we ended up changing the repositories in /etc/apt/sources.list, but he had to pull off like fifteen aptitude dist-upgrade before it had upgraded all the packages.

visions	if you are doing this on a laptop evan, be aware of the UUID labeling change that was made. you will need to tweak your resume settings and such as a result of the upgrade. see https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+bug/66637

evan	Thanks for the tip, but sleep stuff so rarely works for me I haven't even tried it in the past year or so. Maybe I'll give it another shot with edgy.

Do you just shutdown any time you move your laptop then? Hibernate seems to work decently on the t42 under ubuntu edgy running fglrx + beryl with a couple tweaks... but some days it messes up. I haven't played with suspend much, but it seems to work decently.

I don't have any experience with it on a macbook, but I'm sure it can be figured out as well. That is what you are running these days or am I remembering wrong?
