upgrading to ubuntu edgy
Was released a month ago, so maybe it works.
# broken dep in dapper
sudo apt-get install python-vte
# run the update-manager with the "dist upgrade available" button
sudo update-manager -c -d

One of my co-workers was asking me the other day how to upgrade his Ubuntu install, so I went all Debian and had him edit /etc/apt/sources.list. While it worked, I'm sure this solution would have made him less uneasy. ;)
However, when I upgraded from Dapper at a friend's house a week or so after release, using the official update-manager method, it didn't work. So we ended up changing the repositories in /etc/apt/sources.list, but he had to pull off like fifteen aptitude dist-upgrade before it had upgraded all the packages.

I don't have any experience with it on a macbook, but I'm sure it can be figured out as well. That is what you are running these days or am I remembering wrong?
