The new groups release* feels like a family thing: Brett (ex-roommate) was the UI designer, Griff (ex-roommate) was the primary developer, and the page editing was from the trogdor team, much of which I spent the weekend with.

Code search is neat. Does it grok Subversion or is it doing something general to pull the list of neighbouring files from directories in LJ's repository?
It's kinda depressing that a search for my name returns first the shitty colour picker I wrote for LiveJournal years ago. There are so many things I'd rather it return first. :)

I have no idea how you feel about Mark, but regardless, he makes a really good point. A lot of people wonder the same thing about Blogger and RSS. Perhaps you could ask on the inside and find out, in suitably abstract and nondisclosive terms, what the deal with that is.Re: point!
I tried to understand that post but I don't think there is reasoning behind it to be followed. Google acquires YouTube → more traffic for Google → higher ranking on Google (?) → 6A needs its own separate video player website (??) → Blogger doesn't support RSS (I don't think any number question marks could convey the non sequitur here).But I think your question is about RSS. So my question is: which software supports RSS but not Atom? I can't imagine there's any real political reasoning behind this situation, it's just not a high priority. RSS really is broken for all of the reasons a million bloggers will endlessly argue about, but at the end of the day I think anybody reasonable will agree that there are many more important things to worry about than the particular XML format you make your blog machine-readable. One of the main reasons I got out of that whole scene was frustration with how much attention was paid to details that really just don't matter.
(And as that person points out on the post, apparently they do provide RSS feeds, so the whole issue was nothing.)
Regarding Mark: Back when I really followed LJ I found Mark's perpetual animosity towards Blogger a bit weird. Now that I'm friends with most of the Blogger guys (while still hanging out with the LJ crew -- hell, Brad and the manager of Blogger frequently dogsit for one another) I find it silly to the point of being sorta confusing, as if he's gotta know something I don't?
I don't think Blogger itself is an especially fantastic product, and there are competitors (like LJ, as a good example) I'd rather use, but I have a ton more respect for those guys now that I've been able to see it more from the inside. They may have made something suboptimal, but they went and did something, then didn't just sit around and talk talk talk like the rest of these people do.
(Now that I wrote that I went and scanned his blog, and this springs out as a perfect example of what I'm talking about.)
