olpc prototype video

$100 laptop prototype video.

It's amusing to see how the Gnome system menu bar + window title bar + window menu bar + window tool bar uses up half of the screen. (Though I think the plan is to have a custom UI that's more oriented to one app at a time. The machines aren't too powerful.)

And pay the interviewer no attention, 'cause as far as I can tell they don't understand what's going on at all. ("Can you plug in a CD-ROM drive?" The whole point of these systems is to use them in places where even stuff like wall power isn't available!)

a true story

(03:05:20 PM) [a friend]: Have you heard any [...]?
(03:12:22 PM) me: no, who's that
(03:12:39 PM) friend: [description]
(03:13:27 PM) friend: [URL]
(03:14:37 PM) me: heh, that page just crashes my browser
(03:14:43 PM) me: i hate flash so god damn much

Honestly, at this moment I cannot think of another technology I detest more. At least with other bad tech (Microsoft, PHP) I can simply avoid it, but Flash infects everything.
