hate computers

My poor FreeBSD server boots up and works fine for a few minutes but then it stops responding to pings. Plugging a monitor into it is a hassle so I haven't had a chance to investigate further. My current guess is ... I dunno, but likely misconfiguration on my part. (See also my expanded notes on my 5.3 upgrade.)

But that aside, I think in general it's time to get a new machine -- between memory failure and hard drive failure it's probably time to get my data in a safer box.

Does anyone have a recommendation for cheap+reliable hardware for a simple server? I'm tempted to just get another Shuttle but I at least want a few disks in a RAID and I doubt they'd fit.

totally fucked

The computer was locking up due to DMA errors on the other disk -- the half of the RAID that I thought was still good.

I'm leaving for Rhode Island and New York in about 15 hours so I guess I'll have to figure this all out when I return. I hate computers.
