Seeing these sorts of things always make me think of the talk I saw (from someone at Intel, I think?) where he remarked that exponentials don't persist, and as engineers part of our job is to be able recognize when your second derivative flips and you find you're on an s-curve instead. And at that point, to start looking for a new approach.
