windows blocking io / lj search

Brad asked me tonight if Windows supported nonblocking IO. I thought for a bit and then remembered this post from 2001, in which I snippet a MSDN help example that demonstrates use of a nonblocking request by spinning.
(Ah, 2001! I was so naive!)

PS: It's nice to have full-text search of my LiveJournal, but it could be improved in so many ways...
It's too bad I work on Real Search now. It means I probably shouldn't add features, as I don't know which sorts of things that I've learned about are textbook-standard information retrieval and which are fancy.
