cell phones

This struck me today: There's no reason for the primary input on cell phones to still be number keys. I think entering numbers is pretty much the least common activity I do with a cell phone -- I enter numbers only when I'm adding people to my address book. At all other times, I'm looking up names, navigating menus, sending text messages, etc.

strspn Get a Samsung P207 if your carrier offers it, and if they don't, switch carriers. You will be amazed.

- halkeye there are a few pda style cell phones out there now, with limited sized but full keyd keyboards attached (or pens in some cases).

vanbeast	I use my address book for numbers I don't dial commonly and for caller ID. It's faster for me to hit the 10 digits than to go through the address book to find who I'm trying to call. I've got a Sony Ericsson, but the same was true when I had Samsung and Motorola phones. shrug Maybe numbers just make more sense to me.

jarel My wife's phone (some sort of Nokia) flips open to have a keyboard for input. Seems sensible enough :)

snej	I still ♥ my hiptop, though I know it's very uncool of me to still do so. People used to freak out about them not having a normal keypad, but the scroll wheel makes it easy to look up numbers.
