allmusic
allmusic makes me sad: there's so much good content there, but:
- The site is so slow I often give up when I'm looking for information on it.
- The site design is so bad that people write Firefox extensions to "route around" it. [But you should use the GreaseMonkey version.]
I don't quite get why any of these systems are so slow, to be honest.
It's slow partly because much of the UI is JavaScript-powered. They are trying so hard to stop people accessing their content programmatically that they are making it hard for humans to read it. It doesn't help that the UI is poor so I can never find what I'm looking for.
All of the JavaScript crap still has to be transferred from the server to your client, which (since lots of it is generated dynamically for each page) amounts to a lot more than simple HTML and some CSS.
Though having said that, their HTML seems to have changed a lot since I last looked at it, and their links just seem to be regular links to unintelligble URLs rather than
javascript:
URLs.
