And in completely unrelated news, a Ubuntu update changed the fonts around and I really like the way the terminal looks:

(I use huge fonts, by the way.)
But I bet it's just that the TrueType hinter got turned off or something like that and the extra density is a rendering bug. The stems look like they're 1.7 pixels wide or something.
